How do i create a new category in Vbulletin above an existing category, for example:
I want to create a category above Grand Theft Auto Series. ![]() In Vbulletin, it doesn't give you a choice to choose where you create the category, only if it's a child board etc.. Like in simple machines forums they give us these options: ![]() Is there anyway to do this in Vbulletin, it's driving me nuts and i cant continue my forums without knowing this.. |

You have that option from the forum manger you set the display number lower than the GTA forum and you'll have a forum or category above GTA forum on the forum index.
FYI: You cannot make a anything the parent of a category though but changing the display order will change the layout on your forum homepage.

Acceptably Annoying

You're looking in the wrong spot. Just create it and don't worry about order. Once it's created go to "Forums & Moderators" / "Forum Manager" and set your order from there. If you click on the "Go" button beside the "Edit Forum" dropdown, you can change the parent or set it to have no parent. Once back in the main Forum Manager screen you can set it's Display Order within it's parent forum, or if set as a top level category can set it's display order within that.
Remember that if you want it above everything else you'll probably need to reset the Display Order of the other forums. You can set two number 1 categories, but there is no guarantees as to which one will show up first... generally it will be the first one that was created. Bump the Display Order of all of the other categories to be a number greater than the display order you want your new category to be. I usually set up vBulletin boards with order numbers like 10, 20, 30, 40 etc to keep from having to re-number them later when the owner wants to add a category in between other categories. If you set it up 1, 2, 3, 4 and later decide you want something between 1 and 2 you have to go re-number every category below it. With it set up as 10, 20, 30 etc, you just call the new one 15 and your golden.
