OpenX ad rotation system

I want to use OpenX advertising rotation system on all my forums, but it needs to be installed on a domain on a host.

Does anyone have any experience with Open X operation here ?

By my understanding you can install this application on a server and control all the ads on a network of sites from one interface.

Its a major pain to configure and operate, but yes, you can do exactly as you want.

You dont need a seperate domain or host for it if you don't want, you can simply install it in a folder of your current site: ex: http://cpurigs.com/openx/ and control it from there.

Install openX on your domain, or server you want to use for serving the advertisements. Then you'll have to go thru a couple setup steps get all your zones, publishers and everything setup, and at the end it will give you a few different codes that you can use to place on your website where you want ads displayed.

I have an open ads install I mess with but have not implemented. The new how to and docs are much better than in the past. I was able to set up a test scenario and get it working.

The banner at the bottom of this page is served from openAds. http://www.cpurigs.com/forums/links.php

I wanted to have the application installed, the dev told me it had to be given it's own domain and installed on a server to serve ads to my network of sites.

If you say it is a pain to set up maybe that is why he has not completed this task yet.

I wanted him to put the app on the host, create a master template with ad zones for vB index and forum display pages, thread displays and so on, but it never happened, this is why I am looking for additional help from someone who knows how to implement this technology properly.

I guess I will have to hit the OpenX forums to find some expert help down the road.

The ideal situation would be to have identical templates on all my forums, then I could change the ads with this application from one interface for the entire network.

It used to be a frustrating process. Now it's not that bad at all. It's just repetitive. However, once set up, it's up.

It's easier to turn off an ad then edit a template when a campaign expires. I wish I could find the time to implement it server wide for our sites.

I don't know it helps but OpenX recently opened up a program from which they serve the ads for you. It's a lot less aggravation than running your own install but don't know the pitfalls over a stand alone install it cannot be too bad or no one would use it . It's free for less than 25,000,000 impressions/mo.

Well, the hard part is creating a master template for ad zones across all the vb forums you run, it helps if these are exact I would imagine.

Once this is done I think the rest would be simple management of the ads from there on once the app is installed properly.
