Resize images from right click Vista

Howdy Folks,

I'm looking for a little utility app that will resize a jpg or png by right clicking on it. I got used to it on Ubuntu with the nautilus-image-converter package and haven't been able to find anything like it for Vista.

I work with images a lot and frequently need to re size them for websites. Opening a full program like the Gimp or Paint.net is frankly a waste of time when I just need a quick scale & resize. Any ideas?

Thanks,
Dan

What a great find, Dan. I gotta tell ya, I spent hours in the past trying to find an image resizer. I find FastStone Photo Resizer and it works fine and has many features. But I think that the windows xp picture resizer rendered better quality in smaller files.

I'm gonna get it and compare the two. Thanks

Glad you like, I've been looking for this for a while. There is a minor annoyance with this utility. You have to setup defaults the first time around, such as size and where to place the resized file but you cannot set it to over write the original as soon as you do the set as default option is grayed out. It's not that big of a deal though.

Sorry to say, it's really poor compared to FastStone Photo Resizer. I won't use it. The pictures are too grainy and too big.

The Prish Image Resizer for Vista makes an image of 124KB from a source photo of 3,079KB.

Name: P1190355-Prish.JPG
Views: 610
Size: 123.3 KB

The FastStone Photo Resizer reduces the 3,079KB image to 86KB and it's better quality.

Name: P1190355-FastStone.jpg
Views: 558
Size: 85.7 KB

That's what my results are. I think you can see it yourself.

I figured the app was too small to work all that great. I'll continue my search.

Hi Greg,

I just found this and am impressed so far: http://www.vso-software.fr/products/image_resizer/

So far the quality is close to the original, I tried it on 3 photos. It's free for personal use but there's a nag screen every time you launch it unless you buy a license.
