in a recient purchase for a customer I got a linksys wireless "B" external network adapter and it said on the box that it will connect with a wireless "B"or "G"(in b mode)router/gateway or you can connect it to another linksys external adapter.so it looks like they are building wireless network without a Wan(no router/switch) adapters now. the signal must be able to do a crossover without extra processing.

if you are connecting more then 2 computers then you need to come off your wallet and at least get a hub.
even wired network cards can only do pc to pc without a hub or a router(a router is a hub with the ability to rout a wide area network and most of the time a DHCP)
