FREEBS Virgin
Hi all
I'm new to FREEBS and think it's excellent. I am a bit confused however and was hoping that members here could help to answer a couple of questions. 1. I'm primarily looking to build up a large page count (DB driven obviously) but I cannot get my head around the process (p3.php) script. In my chosen category there are quite a few results I can see when I start the script - Quote:
2. I've read on the forum about using spiders to crawl the DB. If the config file is set to automatically grow the DB will spidering the site help with this and is this where the subject matter statrs to go off topic. Thanks and I look forward to your replies.

P3.php populates the DB using keywords and attempts to keep the FREEBS Amazon Book Store on your topic. Some keywords work well, some don't. Even when Amazon says there are 10,000 books, you may only get a couple hundred in your DB due to dupes and out of prints and such.
Letting browsers and spiders grow the DB will add any book Amazon considers a "similar" book to your DB. You can expect to see up to 150,000 books in the DB after 3 months if you have traffic. The con to this is your index pages go off topic. The same effect occurs without growing the DB as far as spiders are concerned, but your DB stays small and Index pages stay on topic. Hope that helps.

Thanks for that. What the best way to start then using p3.php. I've tried following the instuctions -
**'Enter the start page 1 and the items to get to 100' which works but only for a few results. If I then move the start page to 11/12/13 etc it only seems to update results rather than grab new ones.** But as I said above only by randomly entering the information in the fields was I able to get the initial 2000 entires. Please could you clarify for me what I should be entering in the fileds to pull back results each time. Thanks |
