I need some video card help today!!!!
Hi everybody
I have a small dilemma, I am installing a video card into a clients computer today. Now this guy is a friend but not a "close friend" So I don't want to screw him but, I don't want to give him the good ole "family" discount. You know what I mean. He wants to buy one of my spare video cards. Here they are: 1. Visiontek Xstacy Geforce4 ti 4600 ultra 128mb 2. BFG Asylum Geforce fx 5700 ultra 128mb I have 2 questions 1. Which card should I keep in case of trouble or I want to build another machine and don't have the scratch for another video card right away. 2. How much should I charge for either video card? I saw looking through google that both cards are still retailing for prices between $200.00 and $300.00 I don't really think either card is worth that much. I need some help and I need it fast.

At first read....I would say hands down "keep the TI4600"....
Here are a couple of links that may help you decide...but after doing a lil research...I am not so sure about my first thoughts. I would probably keep the 5700 and let the Ti go....here is why ti4600 review http://reviews.zdnet.co.uk/hardware/...0000307,00.htm ti4600 specs http://www.digit-life.com/articles2/...4-4600-gs.html 5700 review & specs http://www.hothardware.com/viewartic...id=334&catid=2 4600 core clock is 310MHz to the 5700's 475MHz 4600 memory clock is 680MHz to the 5700's 900MHz 4600 supports DX8 where the 5700 supports DX9 just a few things to keep in mind...and both cards would play most of todays games no problems....well until you went online and got owned by a dude with a top notch gamebox running 2 6600GTs SLI or a 6800 ultra card....LOL....then of course you have to bring system RAM into the picture and net speed...etc... But for playing games against the computer on an average PC...both cards SHOULD perform close to the same...with the edge going to the 5700 because it of course is a faster thruput card. This is just my opinion based on the specs of both.

After careful consideration I'm leaning towards selling the 4600. ZT is right. On synthetic benchmarks the 5700 is only about 10% faster. But it's a DX9 card and has a faster core and memory. That makes it a little more future proof.
IT's a tough decision to make but I'll do it. Here is what I'm gonna do! Please feel free to call me an idiot or steer me in another direction. I have until 4pm EST to change my mind. I'm going to sell the ti4600 for (tears rolling down my cheeks) $180.00 U.S. plus the install time. All this so his son can play rollercoaster tycoon 3. I think that's a fair price for a $500.00 card that is around 3 years old with very little time on it. Thanks everybody

I just looked at ebay and I almost choked. There is no way I will sell either one of those cards for 50 bucks!!!!!!
I'm going to discount the majority of the online merchants I looked at and stick with my price. I'll just offer a 90 day warranty with the card. Although after looking at ebay that made me realize even more to dump the 4600 and keep the 5700

its hard to swallow the rapid decrease in vidcard cost. I can buy 6600 GT's for 170.00 now.....but the 6800's are still hanging up there close to 500 smaks!

Maybe i'll just charge him $180 for the card and the install. Then I won't feel like I'm taking him for a ride. Everybody's happy at that point.
Thanks to everybody for the help Thread Closed!
