slow shut down

My computer takes a long time to shut down about 3 to 5 minuets.
Any idea's why?
Computer 1 year old Lenovo, win 7, avg virus checker plus microsoft essenshals checker.

I would look in the browser for add ins and remove them. Unistall any and all free toolbars too.

Close down your programs before you shut down. Most programs will respond immediately to a shudown request, then once you have them all shut down, the OS should shut down pretty much instantly.

If you leave a numerous programs open and tell Windows to shut down, it'll bog down trying to kill the processes and will take extra time. I run as many as 30 programs at one time on my box, and it's a simple click, click click on the X on the top right of the program windows to shut them down... takes about ten seconds to get through them, then tell Windows to shut down. Once all the programs are closed, click shut down and the box is off about five seconds later.
