hi! can somebody help me about this thing. I have 2 pc's the OS of pc1 is XP and*for pc2*is ME. i'm trying to connect them using their*LAN but i can't and even the LAN's light isn't blinking and it says that my network cable is unplugged. but when i changed my pc2 with another pc using a 98 OS, my pc1*connects to the pc using 98 OS*but the problem is that i can't see pc1 to that*pc and the same with that pc (w/98 OS). the workgroup is the same i set their ip's manually pc1 having an IP of 192.168.0.1 and a subnet of 255.255.255.0 and a gateway of 192.168.0.1 and for the other pc is 192.168.0.2 for IP then the subnet is 255.255.255.0 and the gateway is 192.168.0.1

Try changing the LAN address to 192.168.1.x and leave the subnet mask the same.

The gateway should be the address of the LAN side of your router and not the 1st pc unless your 1st pc has 2 e-net cards in it.

I would just use DHCP and reboot both machines....that should fix it. Or as nopp said....but use .2 for 1st pc .3 for 2nd pc and .1 for gateway....be sure your router is also .1 on the LAN side
