I had a bad storm last Sunday and lightning struck.y laptop a Copmpaq Armada was hit with a surge ( I went to unplug it and an arc acually came from the plug in the back of the comouter to a pair a scissors about 10 inches away.
The computer sounds like it is running ( I jear hard drive spinning and CD spins ) nothing comes up on the monitor. I tried using another monitor but still nothing.
Is there any hope for this laptop?

It took me this long to get to the page tried a search for lakes computer specialists and there are alot. I finally got my brain wrking again and remembered the cs at the end of lake.

thanks .

don't sound good.if it is under warranty try sending it in for service and do not mention the lightning unless you got it at BestBuy and purchased the extended warranty(they cover it).

if you bought one of the better surge protectors...NOT a 6 outlet power strip....some of them have a warranty for repair or replacement of your equipment.

Sounds to me that you may of just been using a power strip and not a real surge....cuz I have never seen a good surge supressor fail.

goodluck!

there aint a surge out there that will stop a direct lightening hit like that. the cpu might be fried, but i'd venture to say that if the hard drive is spinning you might have hope of recovering the data.
