Heh Heh, Guess I don't know XP's buzz acronym for this task. I searched the help files too.
Anyhow, I would like to know how to manage the programs that run during start up. I would like to disable the ones I don't need for better performance.
Thanks, Kitty :o ;)
PS the site is beautiful, Nice Blue, very welcoming
Kittygator, try this: press start, then "run", then type in msconfig that should bring up a menu-hit the startup tab and get busy!

now, what are the minimum start items up items, to get xp pro to start, with no fluff, i think there are 6? where would i find these nessary items
thanks again :D
If you're looking in MSCONFIG then there are no "required" items. Some probably SHOULD be there, but you could remove them all and XP would still boot just fine (and you probably wouldn't even notice a difference -- except in speed).
Since you're looking for better performance, I would recommend disabling them all. Then, add each one back as you need it and see which one is really decreasing your system performance. You can also look in the Task Manager to see what kind of footprint each application takes up in your system's memory and check the CPU time for each to see how many clock cycles they're eating up.

My favorite Popup blocker is to not use IE and use Mozilla FireFox. :)
But if you must use IE, the google toolbar has a popup blocker.
