miniDV to DVD

what is the best way to transfer miniDV to DVD or CD-rom?

what is the best software to do this? Is there a step by step instruction somewhere on the net to be found?

any info is much appreciated

normally a DV comes with the software to transfer-but if you are unlucky enough to have a sony DV and windows xp on the pc this wont work because sony uses Roxio's incd(or whatever it is called)that dont work with xp.
