also, for those wishing to test out Linux, Knoppix is back online. They make a great Linux bootable CD that allows you to run Linux without installing it to your hard drive. Great for playing around, but eventually you will want/need to install a version of linux.
you can find most downloadable linux distributions at:
www.linuxiso.org (http://www.linuxiso.org/)
you can find more info about knoppix at:
www.knopper.net/knoppix/index-en.html (http://www.knopper.net/knoppix/index-en.html)
ok..had a look at those sites..
heres my question...
can I d/l to a seperate harddrive that has no o/s on it..and run it from there? for now?

To burn the CD in nero...
open nero with the wizard and select the last option..."Disk Image or saved project".
Now you have the open file menu. You need to change the file type being opened to "Image Files (*.nrg,*.iso,*.cue)".
Now find the ISO, select it and click open.
On the next screen click next to start the burn.
I just did this to make sure it works, you should have no problems.
EDIT: This is for burning the fedora iso's.

You will still need to burn to a CD to install it. It is possible to download/install directly to a hard drive, but the process is much more involved.

thanks anaconda, I have more again so today I'll give it another shot :)
well..this bites...
After getting error after error..I finally get one to burn and it wont read..the new cd's I got give me a "not enough room" error....which I KNOW is not the real problem....blahh....this is aggrivating.
Still want to check it out though. I have no idea "why" I'm so curious...its just one of those things I have to do just to see if I can...anyways..thanks all for the help and tips.

Did you run the wizard in nero?
If not try this:
When opening nero it should popup the wizard if so try this:
Step One:
http://www.curvnet.com/nero/step1.GIF
Step Two
http://www.curvnet.com/nero/step2.GIF
Step Three
http://www.curvnet.com/nero/step3.GIF
Step Four
http://www.curvnet.com/nero/step4.GIF
Step Five
http://www.curvnet.com/nero/step5.GIF
Step Six
http://www.curvnet.com/nero/step6.GIF
The last step you would search were the ISO files are at and click on one. Then should tell you the speed it will burn and click on burn and that is it.. Let me know if you have done these steps exact..
switch
hey switch..
thanks alot ...that was alot of trouble to go through but the problem isnt in the software now. Its the cd's I bought. They're maxell and dont like me...when I do a cd check they come up saying "blank", 0.0 available space and 0.0 used space..then nothing happens..error saying the disc is not burnable or something..dont remember the exact wording...
again thanks and I'm sure I'll be coming back to it sooner or later.
