Virus or not?

I have this problem where I load up my computer and it loads up normally only to show immediately one of the following:

Parts of the screen turn to yellow and then the whole screen can turn black or the screen then starts to crash or freeze up

I don't know how to solve this, but I am writing whilst on safe mode, it appears the problem does not linger here but once everytime I load my computer up in normal mode, the other happens and the problem starts again.

Sounds like a driver issue to me. If you can remember if you installed any new hardware recently, ie...video card, printer, sound card, scanner, etc... Uninstall the driver and see if it persists.

If you havent installed new hardware...try to remember if you updated any of your current hardware driver recently and remove or "roll back" the driver to a previous version and check to see if it persists.

If your memory is as bad as mine is lately, start removing hardware drivers one at a time till the problem goes away. If you go this route, be sure to reboot the PC each time you remove a driver just so you are sure which one it is.
