They pulled the plug on Bubba the Love Sponge! He has been yanked everywhere except XM. Ok I admit it. I did enjoy his gutter humour every morning. Worse yet it was some a$$ from here in Jax that caused it.
He had his moments, but overall was an asshole.
Here's a news article...

I sense the loss of Bubba The Love Sponge won't be an overwhelming loss to society.

Oh he was an asshole all right but he admitted being an asshole. Reveled in being an asshole. He was the epitome of asshole. Maybe thats why I related to him lol. You have to admit Ned was one of the funniest psychos on radio.

Everybody fire off an email to XM!
Ok so if sex sells then bubba's a success.
But what do you get in that?
You get to beat off while bubba tells ya about the tits he is looking at or touching, while you drive down the road.
Yeah, that's what I wanna do, listen to a fat asshole rub some tits I'll never have first thing in the morning.
Your bubba reminds me of Howard Stern...only HS is still allowed to send chicks out on the street to get boob ratings and flash him in the studio...I dont see the difference..lol...
oh well..whatever floats your boat :D
I accidently caught Bubba a few months ago and listened to a fascinating two hours of political discussion. I was baffled a few days later when I tuned to the station and found a beevis and butthead type program only raunchier. I actually told my husband that the radio turner was broken because it would get different channels at the same number. LOL. Bubba was a split personality. When he was good he was very, very good.. but when he was bad he was horrid. Lately he was so horrid it was offensive by any standards. XXX radio at drivetime just dont sell.
I've been following this on google, not much has been published. One thing that stands out though is that bubba didn't seem to own even the domain btls.com, it's hosted on 98rock.com's server and has been shutdown. Yesterday there was a plea there to get listeners to help him move his show to XM. All reference to him on 98rock.com is gone too.

Broadcasting clearchannels signal if it was. The guys posted yesterday they need help getting a studio to run the show and XM to approach them for a broadcast contract.
They are totally screwed IMO, they come with too high a liability tag. They were in 4 markets in florida. That listenership will be very hard to duplicate through subscriptions. I don't see a come back here. File this one under Ron&Ron.

He is off of XM also (at least for now). I listen to him sometimes in the morning on XM and his show was not on this morning, but was rather replaced by a taped Phil Hendrie Show.
Like him or hate him, censorship affects us all...

How can you call being out of the bounds of the law and most probably his contract censorship? That's just not the case here IMO.
its not censorship its econmics. When the audience disappears so do the sponsors. Who wants to be the sposor of a show that spent an entire hour discussing watching dogs lick their buts and how they tried to do it themselves. An actual morning discussion I heard personally.

well this is my domain -I used to work with bubba and crew.98 rock totally kissed his ass to get him ,knowing full well what his show on flz was like.what you guys dont get is this is typical clearchanel corprate crap.every person I knew that worked for 98 rock/thunder 103.5 and 970 wfla has now been fired(except 2 of the bosses-Mike Olivero and Dan D'Lareto -promotions manager and general manager)ClearChanel is very much a cut throat ,back stabing company.they will tell you to do whatever you have to to get the ratings then fire you if they get any heat for it.
Bubba was right in there with the rest of them,so what goes around just came around for him.Not to mention he has said several times on the air in the past couple of months that he wishes he could get out of his contract-well he got what he wanted.I feel more for Brent ,Spiceboy and Manson(though with Mansons tallent he will find another gig).

I am not sure Bubba the Love Sponge is worth defending, but...
I call the actions of the FCC (not necessarily Clear Channel) censorship because they clearly are censorship, as that word is commonly defined. Clear Channel made a business decision (as Tere noted) based on the fear of fines and possibly further government heat.
But make no mistake, what happened with the FCC fines was censorship without question. Regardless of whether you like the message, hate the message, or fail to see any message, in the Bubba Show, the act of fining him based upon the words that he uses, regardless of whether such fines are justified, is censorship, plain and simple.
Maybe some censorship is good, but still, I am always a little reluctant to see it. What if, for example, Bubba was catching heat for saying "the government sucks"? You may not like him. but if he is "silenced" then, obviously, others will be silenced and there will also be others who will be "scared" into more careful discussions.
The difficult part of all of this is that there simply are no real rules. The truth is, when you are looking at the laws (or rather more correctly stated, the "administrative regulations") regarding what you can and cannot say on the radio, the actual rules are vague, and no one is completely sure exactly what can and what cannot be said.

not to mention it was not under federal law or state law or even the city of tampas law-the fine was based on some small communities law -and they never even said wich one.there are always limits to free speech but this was way outside of the box.this is how the government is starting to work - if they don't like what you say then they find a way to shut you up-welcome to the Bush Taliban-if there is no law yet to keep you doing what they want they will make a new one to do it-make no mistake this effects everyone.
