Specs, Gigabyte EP45-UD3P motherboard, Intel Q6900 processor, 4GB Ram, 4 500GB WD drives in RAID0 for storage and scratch (offsite backup of course), one 360 WD as a boot drive, basic DVD reader/writer.

Over the last couple of months this thing has started to snail on me. I've defragged the drives and ran all of the regular utilities. It's been such a pain in the behind that I've quit using it for my main design machine and started doing most of my work at the house on a similar system, only a Q6600 and an Intel BadAxe2 mobo.

Friday we had a bad lightning storm that took out the built in ethernet adapter on the badaxe2 with a very audible pop. the computer still works, but the network connection is gone baby gone. The bios still recognizes it, but as far as Windows goes, it doesn't exist on the system. I've ordered a new motherboard for that system, deciding there was no need to upgrade the processor or ram since I traditionally haven't done much more than browse the internet on it, and it is sufficient for Adobe and Corel design work.

Now that I can't connect that machine to the network, I've had to resort to going back to the shop machine for design work, and this piece of crap is killing me. I'm typing this message while staring at an hourglass in corel that has been there for ten minutes copying one 36kb image. I've been working on this drawing since 2 o'clock this afternoon and should have been finished by 3. It'll be 8 o'clock here in another 15 minuites or so, and I'm nowhere cose to getting this done. Make one change, stare at an hourglass for 10 minutes. Everything else runs full speed except for the blasted graphics programs. Task manager shows no extreme memory usage... but all four processor cores are pegged out.

I'm so frustrated, that when the wife stopped in on her way home from work, I handed her the .357 magnum that I keep strapped under the desk in case a crackhead drops in to rob me, and told her to take it to the house because I was just five minutes a way from emptying the thing into the box.

Yeah, I'm just bitching here... but if anybody has any reasonable advice that doesn't involve me spilling my own blood I could use it. I told the wife that this box is going... I don't care if it costs me 2 grand. I can't work like this, and the blood pressure medication will ultimately cost me more than the box will.

Take deep breaths.

I've already hyperventelated taking deep breaths. I'll be at Jekyll Island and the end of the month. If you think you can do anything with this beast, let me know and I'll bring her along and you can come get her. You're only a couple of hours away. Personally I never want to see her again. I'm keeping the drives, but the rest is up for grabs. I just can't straighten her out. I'm ordering a complete new system tonight.

About 3 A.M. I gave up. I migrated all of my data over the network and went to the house to get the gun. I blew 5 holes through the sumbitch. It won't be bothering me any more. TigerDirect got a nice order for components for a new system this morning.

I feel better now.

Hey, if you're serious, I would give that to my kid for his gaming. He's on an old Dell.

I was serious about 14 hours ago... about 7 hours ago I killed it though so there's nothing left to use for a computer. It's got some nice fat holes through it that you could thread a rope through , fill it with concrete, and make a boat anchor out of it if you want.
