View Full Version : Running vBulletin on LAN

Hi friends....to begin with i want to tell you that i am very new to vbulletin forum thing....i want to run vbulletin forum in my LAN college....i can use my computer as a web server and use operating system Red Hat Enterprise Linux to run forum...so please tell me how to begin with??? any help would be highly thankful...

Buy it, download it, install it. Once you get that far, you'll start figuring out what you want to do with it from there.

My question would be do you need an expensive commercial system like vBulletin? There are many free bulletin board systems out there for tinker-toy sites that really have no direction. Being in college you might be better served to go to one of those and save your money for beer.

SMF (Simple Machines Forum... Google it) is a great free board with a huge user support base. I use it on several forums that I'm not trying to commercialize. it's user friendly from an administrator standpoint, runs well without tremendous overhead, and does what most people running a basic forum need.

That's interesting. I didn't see a solution that matches the reply. The IP tells me soon we will see a sting of spam. Call me pessimistic.

Was a suspicion of mine from the start... but I can't do ip address lookups on registrations here.

I give them a little slack. They take it as a spec and update algorithms. Then I change all the settings again. It's a lot less work lately, but we still get a few.
