Right on, Andy Rooney! Andy Rooney said on 60 minutes a few weeks back: (for those of you that don't know Andy Rooney, he is an 82 year old US TV commentator)
I don't think being a minority makes you a victim of anything except numbers. The only things I can think of that are truly discriminatory are things like the United Negro College Fund, Jet Magazine, Black Entertainment Television, and Miss Black America. Try to have things like the United Caucasian College Fund, Cloud Magazine, White Entertainment Television, or Miss White America; and see what happens. Jesse Jackson will be knocking down your door.
Guns do not make you a killer. I think killing makes you a killer. You can kill someone with a baseball bat or a car, but no one is trying to ban you from driving to the ball game.
I believe they are called the Boy Scouts for a reason, that is why there are no girls allowed. Girls belong in the Girl Scouts! ARE YOU LISTENING MARTHA BURKE?
I think that if you feel homosexuality is wrong, it is not a phobia, it is an opinion. I have the right "NOT" to be tolerant of others because they are different, weird, or tick me off.
When 70% of the people who get arrested are black, in cities where 70% of the population is black, that is not racial profiling, it is the Law of Probability.
I believe that if you are selling me a milk shake, a pack of cigarettes, a newspaper or a hotel room, you must do it in English! As a matter of fact, if you want to be an American citizen, you should have to speak English!
My father and grandfather didn't die in vain so you can leave the countries you were born in to come over and disrespect ours. I think the police should have every right to shoot your sorry self if you threaten them after they tell you to stop. If you can't understand the word "freeze" or "stop" in English, see the above lines.
I don't think just because you were not born in this country, you are qualified for any special loan programs, government sponsored bank loans or tax breaks, etc., so you can open a hotel, coffee shop, trinket store, or any other business.
We did not go to the aid of certain foreign countries and risk our lives in wars to defend their freedoms, so that decades later they could come over here and tell us our constitution is a living document; and open to their interpretations.
I don't hate the rich. I don't pity the poor. I know pro wrestling is fake, but so are movies and television. That doesn't stop you from watching them.
I think Bill Gates has every right to keep every penny he made and continue to make more. If it ticks you off, go and invent the next operating system that's better, and put your name on the building. Ask your buddy that invented the Internet to help you. (Al)
It doesn't take a whole village to raise a child right, but it does take a parent to stand up to the kid; and smack their little behinds when necessary, and say "NO!"
I think tattoos and piercing are fine if you want them, but please don't pretend they are a political statement. And, please, stay home until that new lip ring heals. I don't want to look at your ugly infected mouth as you serve me French fries!
I am sick of "Political Correctness." I know a lot of black people, and not a single one of them was born in Africa; so how can they be "African-Americans"? Besides, Africa is a continent. I don't go around saying I am a European-American because my great, great, great, great, great, great grandfather was from Europe. I am proud to be from America and nowhere else.
And if you don't like my point of view, tough. DON'T PASS IT ON!!
Check your sources-he not did not write it nor does he agree with it:
Moreover, Rooney himself denied it in 2003, saying:
About a year ago, I became aware of a more serious theft of my name and it is so hurtful to my reputation that it calls for legal action against the thief. Hundreds of people have written asking if I really wrote the 20 detestable remarks made under my name that have had such wide circulation on the Internet.
[...]
Some of the remarks, which I will not repeat here, are viciously racist and the spirit of the whole thing is nasty, mean and totally inconsistent with my philosophy of life. It is apparent that the list of comments has been read by hundreds of thousands of Americans, many of whom must believe that it accurately represents opinions of mine that I don't dare express in my column or on television. It is seriously damaging to my reputation.
:) Andy rocks
even if he didnt write it...I happen to agree with all of the above.

What part of it do you think was 'straight up bigotry' ?

"I think that if you feel homosexuality is wrong, it is not a phobia, it is an opinion. I have the right "NOT" to be tolerant of others because they are different, weird, or tick me off."
you have the "right" to not be tolerant ,but that still makes you a biggot, just as you have the right to not like black, asian, or indian people ,but that still makes you a racist.
"I don't think being a minority makes you a victim of anything except numbers."
if you really think this is true ,try being a Black woman trying to rent a house in a mostly white neighborhood.
"When 70% of the people who get arrested are black, in cities where 70% of the population is black, that is not racial profiling, it is the Law of Probability. "
while on the surface this may seem locical -it is really twisting the numbers for the sake of looking good.really the numbers are not proportionate to the population.in Florida for instance almost 85% of the prison population is Black -and if you add in people of hispanic background that leaves a whole 4-5% white people.
you asked -I answered ;)

so by your definition...just not liking them classifies a racist?
and to think that all these years I thought I was just a prejiduce!

Yep. But what's wrong with being a bigot, anyway? I like driving fast. I'm not very tolerant of slow drivers (I'm sure you Florida residents can relate). So, by definition, I'm a bigot.
"I don't think being a minority makes you a victim of anything except numbers."

The original statement was not bigotry -- just ignorance.
"When 70% of the people who get arrested are black, in cities where 70% of the population is black, that is not racial profiling, it is the Law of Probability. "

I agree with the orginial statement. Your example is a completely different scenario that may constitute racial profiling. But in the original scenario, I would agree. After all, I'm sure 95% of prisoners in Canada are Canadians.
Oh for crying out loud! You can spin anything any direction you like, but lumping these statements together is in itself a big "spin" that really is bigoted.
"I don't think being a minority makes you a victim of anything except numbers. "
<What makes them a minority IS numbers-not race. By adding the rest of the paragraph you make it racist not because you dislike the United Negro College Fund---because you don't like it because it's the united" NEGRO" college fund. All "college funds" are for select groups of one kind or another.>
"I think that if you feel homosexuality is wrong, it is not a phobia, it is an opinion. I have the right "NOT" to be tolerant of others because they are different, weird, or tick me off."
<Depends on your definition of tolerant I suppose, a dislike is one thing, I may not like my neighbor but I don't have any "right" to commit any act of violence against him. Tell me what your supposed "right" to not be tolerant consists of and maybe I can go along with it--jusy might not agree.>
I find this whole feel good email/article ridiculous because: for one, it has to be attached to a lie (as in who created it). By saying Andy Rooney or some other celebrity makes some people agree simply because of endorsement-albeit a lie. Also by adding enough broad statements-like guns don't make you a killer-you can attract enough weak minded people to agree with all of it since they believe in one that hits home with them. (present company excluded:D )

ok I can redo that by saying -just as you can not tolerate black, asian, or indian people ,but that still makes you a racist.
the question posed to me was "What part of it do you think was 'straight up bigotry' ?"
so I posted the parts I thought were.that is the great thing about opinions -we all have them, too bad everyone elses is wrong ;)
and yes not liking other races does make you a racest lol -Prejustice is part of that.........:)

I agree that all races have their prejudice -but it is how we tollerate each other that determins racism(at least in my opinion)and burning crosses makes you a Klan member as well as a racist-to me the most dangerous type of racest is the one that does not speak out but keeps all that hate inside till they wind up killing a bunch of people.
don't take it the wrong way,I am not calling you a biggot or racist,I was just agreeing with the statment that if you don't like other races ,that makes you a racest ...lol

I never thought that you were calling me a biggot or racist...so no worries.
I first replied to this thread in jest....picking on your definition of the term...or rather your insight of it.
I will agree with you somewhat though after a long thought about the big picture.
I will pick a race here at random just for example...
If I disliked every black person just because they are black...that makes me a racist. This is true. If I choose not to associate with blacks but only in professional and/or social settings (ie work, school, public)...then this makes me prejudiced. This is also true...See where I'm going with my definitions?
I appologize if my posts mislead anyone to think that I disliked an entire race of people...because I certainly did not mean to convey that attitude.
I just really wanted to point out that racism and prejudice is really two entirely different things.

now that I can agree with. ;)
