I've used PS for years...I'll try to help, there is plenty that I still need to learn, but I've picked up a few tricks.
Post in this forum your graphic program of choice and I'm sure there are plenty of us out there who will need help now and then!
I have PS, but let me tell you, not one how to I've see is the same as what I see when I try to go along with it.
A simple, one that works, how to make a button would help me alot.
Why do I need PSD files? Damn there seem to be so many layers. What's it all mean?
Help!
Thanks

<this not said sarcastically> What kind of button? for a web page? A button like on a shirt? A button that looks 3D? Give some more details about what you want.
Layers are awsome. A good analogy is: The old comics that if you flip the pages, it looks like the person is moving.
One great thing about layers is that if you make a mistake, you can simply change/delete the layer without losing the rest of your work.
PSD files are the native format for Photoshop. However, you can change them into jpgs or gifs.

Only been playing with PS a few months, but it's one cool tool. Still just trying to just pick up the basics. Will keep my eye on this forum for a few tricks and tips.
BTW Hi everyone, as soon as I figure out who everyone is I'll feel right at home.... :)
The famous pill type oval like button with a shadow or gradiant effect and text would be a great start. (I think)
Like the edit and quote button with rounded edges.

One great hint is, when you want to create something like a button, or small graphic. Create a very large one...it is easier to create a large 'something' than it is to create a small 'something'. Then when you shrink it down, you won't be able to see those nasty imperfections.

Could you recommend a book that might speed the learning process along for PS. Still Using Ver. 6 but getting Ver. 7 soon, at least I think i am... lol
TY
I get all the way to FILE|NEW, then things go to the pits.

Yeah it's not for the weak at heart. I basically have no artistic talent but have managed to a couple of things with milti layers, text, etc.... lost after that.... lol

lol I can relate having that feeling about a different hobby's tools...
First off, when going from file/new it is easier to start out by changing the image size from pixels to inches. Then you can change the size to something like 4x6 to play with.
One night if you could give us a haf hour say on IRC I'd be deeply indebted.

Sure noppid. Monday or Tuesday evening of next week. Let me get back with you to pin down a time.
Sounds great!
A simple project with help will prolly lead most of us to bigger and better things.
Thanks

Depending on your level of expertise, the dummy series books are a great start.

photoshop is best learned by just playing with it -it is a very powerful tool once you learn your way around it -if you think layers are cool -then wait till you find channels.
I use it quite a bit -not only as a image editor ,but also to make textures for 3dstudio max.But it is a great pre and post image editor .
I find sending my art to you is much easier DAVE, but I'd like to learn to make a pill button with text and shading or a gradiant color.
