How do you manage the menu bar, view, toolbars, then the drop down feature which has web sites listed.
I have a couple of addy's that i cannot remove.
I want to remove them because even when i set up my internet options, home page, default open with, and then apply it.
The drop down menu addy somehow takes over my opening home page on IE.
how do i remove those addy's, like yahoo is one, and this porno site, go figure how it got there, but not i can't get rid of it.
Thanks, Kitty
Did ya try internet options->clear history?
Not certain where exactly you are trying to clear.

there is a virus that sets your homepage to a porn site -then as it progresses it adds a bunch of porn to your bookmarks -launches a porn site on startup and uses your address book to send porn spam to people.

Well, i'll try clearing history. Is there no way to manage the drop down menu items then? I thought they might be in a folder somewhere
Thanks you all, appreaciate it much

I agree with the other posters, clearing the history (which can be done from within IE's drop down menus) seems to be the easiest way to clear the drop down address listing of visited sites.

thanks again, the computer that has this issue is at my part time job, and my boss, dah, somehow went to this site, i think it is
hotwebsearch, like a search engine, so it shows up, like my yahoo does, see atch, i will go to work Monday, tomorrow, and try the clear history, but gee, there must be a way to go in and manage that drop down? If there isn't there should be lol
thanks again, kitty

you can clear it or leave it -or you can open the history folder and delete it from there-but if you just wait it will drop off the history drop down(20 days is the default time it keeps the entry in the history)

Hi again, thanks again for all your posts, every time you try to figure something out, you always learn some thing, especially, with all of your helpful input.
so i, cleared the history.
Then i went to the home page of hotwebsearch.com. And i did the unforgiveable. I read, and under FAQ's there was info regarding homepage setup. Whalla. there it was, the uninstall feature.
Evidentally, when cuseeme, heh heh, was installed, it was part of its advertising setup, which had you select hotwebsearch as your home page.
So, i was good that we did not have a virus. and I learned more about the History feature.
Lots of Meows (thanks) Kitty:p
Glad that worked out. If we see it again at least we'll have a clue. :)
Kitty, I watched this thread go thinking I was missing something, and maybe I am but, an easier solution to me would have been to go to internet options and change your home page back to where you had it. I still think that after uninstalling that trash I would run "spybot search and destroy" or adaware because I bet it left some ugly spyware on your system.

Yes, I think we were all missing something. It was not the drop down menu list of visited web pages that she was referring to, but rather a "spyware" program disguised as an application. Adaware would have probably gotten rid of it (or maybe spybot)...

adware is just a stolen version of spybot-one they want you to pay for.

You can also uninstall that annoying yahoo companion VIA the add/remove programs.
Also look for any programs installed in your add/remove program section that do not look fimilure. You may notice some that only have names and no info. Like size, used and last used on.
Some of these types of spyware and trojens are not caught by spybot S&D or antivirus..
Have a great day......:)
