Acer Laptop question

A friend of mine has an Acer laptop with a boot password and log in. My question is this, does the bios on a laptop reset like a desktop PC (via jumper on the main board) and does Vista use the same password set-up and storage that NT uses?

If you remove the batter and the cmos battery, it would clear like a desktop if it is a bios password I would think.
