Away for a couple days & come back and my internet is down. Linksys router BEFSR41, lights are flashing like crazy. So I try the reset button, no good. Then power off the modem & unplug router for a couple minutes. Plug everything back in still no go. So I take the wire coming out of the modem and going into the router and plug it into the puter. Good to go now.

So anything else I can try or is it time to dump it.

You should try to see if you can connect it back up and get into its firmware. Usually the address is 192.168.1.1

There should be a status page there to show you whats what. If the lights still are flashing like crazy, its probably toast.

Is it cable or tel co DSL router? ( I don't know all the modem numbers, barely know even a few )

If a tel co type modem and all lights are flashing the same, that usually is what happens after a lightning storm. Modem is shot. Smell it, you will know. Plug a phone into the jack and see if you have dial tone, if so phone line is good.

If damaged in this way usually you can't access the modem via it's IP address. Power cycle the modem and still all lights blink, then modem has gone bye bye.

does it have a reset button in the back? (we call it the "button of death")

Good idea when you are gone for awhile to unplug from power and tel co jack to isolate from a lightning surge.

Sometimes those linksys routers get to hot and cause all kinds of issues. Make sure it is in a cool place and has room to breath. Also try and new power source I like linksys but they have a tendency to burn out the power supply a lot of times. In one office we had to set up a fan on the linksys to keep it cool, once we did that no more problems.
