Had some recent problems with my ISP Comcast. After service man left, found two major differences in my ME now. One is that I have no files in explorer bar when I try to access them in the left pane. When I open View, I can get favorites, media, history, search, etcs. but no files. Any idea how to get that back?

Second is now when I book computer, it brings up password window, which I cannot seem to get rid of. Within msconfig, Selelctive Startup is selected and all items below are checked. I open System INI and try to uncheck Passwords, but that does not do it. What do I have to do the get rid of that irritation password window? Many thanks...your help will be greatly appreciated.

1) In windows explorer goto the "view" menu at the top of the page and click...

View | Explorer Bar | Folders

2) In control panel open network.
In the "Primary Network" setting select "Microsoft Family login" then click 'OK".

If it's not there Click the "Add" Button
Select "client" and then click "ADD"
Select "MicroSoft" | "Microsoft Family Logon" and Click ok.
Then select your "Primary Network" by doing the first step again.

That should do it from what you've posted. Holler back if you have problems.

in me -when you install a network device (a network card)it will bring up the login screen at boot.by default the password should be blank(just hit enter).

I don't have a test computer with ME on it to duplicate your issue. I'm gonna pass this off to Dave and see if he can help you more.

you may be having problems with ME-you can do a reinstall without formating first -this should "fluff" your windows files without wiping out everything that is installed.

I agree that reloading is a drastic measure. Maybe someone else has ME and can help.

I have reloaded me several times without problems-Dell tech support is a bunch of baboons that have no idea what they are talking about-most can't even answer a simple question if it is not on their troubleshooting screen-However they were right about one thing -ME is full of problems.I have found it must be reinstalled anually or it will just get worse and worse untill it is unusable.if you go into explorer -then click view -then explorer bar -then put the check next to folders and it dont help -then ME is messed up and replacing the bad files or the whole OS is your answer-BTW Please stop deleting your posts-I cant help if you remove your posts.
in the end the real fix would be to upgrade to XP -but if you want to salvage this you need to do a reinstall -or back up your files and do a format and clean install(and get used to it -you will be doing it again if you stick with me)

Dave she's not deleting her posts, she keeps answering the email notifications which come then to me. I moved them here, I asked her to post here in the future.

Sorry to be so uninformed........will try this this time to see if it works, rather than answering the email

Thanks for the input. If I to upgrade to XP, will I load it right over the ME, or what?

I'd first backup any important data, then try an ME reload. I'm not so sure upgrading a damaged OS is a good idea, but it may be your last resort. Mind you not being there it's impossible to ascertain all your options.

always back up important data first -and yes you could upgrade right over me -because it is a complete upgrade from win9x to NT it will completely replace the windows files -avoiding the dreaded problem of draging the problems from one OS to another.it should however leave your programs in tact-but you may want to run the compatibility check first to make sure that your programs will work with xp(if not you may need to download updates or patches.).sory about the deleted posts thing -I didn't realize the posts were not made here.
