this is one of my recient purchases.I had to replace some equipment that was damaged by lightning. It is a Dolby 6.1 Reciever with support for 7.1(analog connection).you can use either 6 speaker with a sub(adding a center chanel to the rear)or 7 speakers and a sub(moving your 5.1 rears to the center of the room and the 2 extras to the rear-but in this case the 2 rear are mono unless you have a 7.1 ready device to connect through the analog connectors).in any case this 100watt per chanel reciever fills the room with sound-and when paired with the Pioneer DV-667A DVD/SACD/DVD audio player (see my other post),you get a sound that would be hard to beat.
I would highly recomend this system and a good set of speakers-I chose to use the 6.1 setup and love it,and at $299 it is a great price too(Best Buy)
(there are no real uses for 7.1 yet but there are now many movies in Dolby THX ES and Dolby Digital ES -Both are 6.1)
