hello folk's

i am new to the forum world and hoping to make it:)
have gotten great advice so far with what i have done. (thanks Peggy)
just can't seem to get my new skin to work?
is it a thing with miner skinz or just me?

i have two loaded on my site and can't get either one to work.
me and the wife spent all day yesterday trying with no success.
so i just have my board shut down for now.
i have everything to do still from a-z

have the latest version of vbulletin don't know if thats the hang up?
but my wifes a it girl, and she's pulling her hair out too.

is buying a skin the answer? do do i just need a expert?

any advice would be great thanks mark

Skins are a tough purchase. With the constant changes to the template system and now it appears the JavaScript has changed, old "skins" may not function properly.

I am a big advocate of CSS only styles. With CSS and images, one can make a forum very nice and unique.

With a skin, a month from now it could be broke and in two more months, break again.

Also, major upgrades usually render a skin 100% uesless.

Learn the Style option in the vB ACP and do it yourself if you can. The style will survive all upgrades.

Or, when you buy a skin, look for work like Peggy's. I believe most of her styles are CSS.

thank u :)

i like buying the best tool's to work on my trucks, and it would seem then that the same applies here in the world of computers and the best advise i have gotten so far has been from Peggy. (i love u Peggy) and it seems that the cream rises to the top very fast. only a few weeks into this and Peggy's name keeps popping up.
there must be a reason. its off to Peggy's skins shopping i go :)

i know i had seen a site of hers somewhere? i will go and try to find it.
i bet it won't be to hard to find.

i only want to do this once and move to the next step not keep tripping on the same mistakes over and over again.
thank u for the great advice.

and thanks for fixing my name:)

I taught her well. She is very astute and worked out her niche nicely.

Rage,

If you're using one of Miner's skins make sure you download it from Miner's 3.6.8 section (http://www.minerskinz.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=32). If the skin works but you do not see any images make sure you uploaded them to the proper place. By default all Miner's skins put their images in /images/styles/<stylename>. On a default vBulletin install you have to manually create the styles directory under images.

I also agree with Noppid using skins with customized templates is a major headache in between vBulletin upgrades. You have to wait and hope that the designer updates it or manually update it yourself which is major PITA if you don't know what you're doing.

Oh and Peggy (http://www.themesbydesign.net) is top notch!

Hope it helps,
Dan

lol...:) its amazing how one finds the best sites by reading the bottom's of every one's site page's. i have traveled thousands of miles and never left my chair.
the great advice and exemplary members i have meet has been astonishing.

i can only hope some of this knowledge rubs off on me.
again i say thank you for everyones helping hand. if i can get my site up and running and be only 1/3 as good as you outstanding leaders have accomplished, i will be very proud of my self. i think my wonderful wife might even be a little surprised too.
right now i am waiting for my new book to arrive at boarders books, called building forums with VBULLITEN
I am hoping i have chosen the best book to learn from.
then maybe i can open my site to the public. until then mine remains closed so i can try to get all the different forums set-up. and all the leader positions, that i will need to run it.

its amazing how complex vbulletin is and what one can do with it. i have a new found respect for anyone running a successful site.

talk to u soon your pal mark
