hi all!! i wonder if you could give me some advice. my girlfriend asked me to help configure something on her computer, so we used msn remote assitance to sort it out, but when i linked up to her computer it started running extremly slowly so we decided to stop the link up, but now she is having problems with her keyboard (when a key is pressed it is displaying the wrong charachter on screen, eg pressing letter key A results in letter J being shown on screen) and we dont understand why, as there was nothing wrong with her computer or keyboard prior to the msn remote assistance link up, and i didnt change anything on her computer during the link up.
im no expert so could you keep the computer jargon as minimal as possible lol
thank you

do a system restore back to before you set up the remote assistance application
I'm compelled to say something is trying to exploit the control center. But I'm paranoid when it comes to spyware and such.

everything seems to be working fine now thank god, it somehow fixed itself before we got the chance to try out anything. but we are still a bit concerned as to what caused it and if it will happen again.
any ideas?

it is very possible that her computer and yours have differing locale settings and her computer interpreted them incorrectly. This happens all the time with remote control software. It more than likely was not some outside nasty. Usually a reboot solves the issues.

thank you bufordt, that explanation does make sense, as i am in the uk and she is in russia. so does this mean that remote assistance is out of the question for the future? or is there some way to use it taking into account the different locale settings?
Do you have to sync the time zones?

It is things like the time settings, keyboard layout, mouse and desktop settings that will cause issues. Most remote softwares have settings that will allow you to default to the settings of one or the other computer default locale settings. I do not use the MSN software, so I am unfamiliar withs its setup capabilities. If you Google for ULTRA VNC, it is a freeware remote connection that does allow you to use the defaults of either computer. I have successfully use tis software to attach to computers in China, Ireland, the UK, and the middle east. Make sure to get ULTRA VNC as some of the other VNC's had a few vulnerabilities.
