Hi

i have a had external hard drive to store all my pics, music and various other downloads as my dell desktop kept crashing and i was loosing info.. anyhow onto the problem. I tried to access the hard drive today and no power is going in to the unit. I have never had this problem before, so i checked the fuse in the plug and in the socket aswell and all are ok.. i also checked the unit in various other power outlets but still no look.. Does anyone know what maybe causing this?? Is there an internal fuse that i need to check?? if it just simply just broken, is there way i can remove the actual harddrive and maybe connect to my desktop and save the info back or to transfer it on to another harddrive? Would this be a easy as taking the harddrive out of the broken unit, buying new unit and transferring the hard drives around

many thanks for any help and suggestions

Have someone that is capable using a volt/ohm meter to check the power pack.

Most likely the power pack is bad.

Worst case scenerio is you take the drive out and connect it to your PC as a slave and get the data from it that way.

The power packs go bad on these all of the time. But to answer your other question, yes you can usually pull the drive out of the unit and connect it directly to a PC to save the data. That is if the Drive itself is not what is bad.
