View Full Version : For those like me....
I had emails from 4 people that were afraid to post because they were afraid they would be outcast (ok I added that) for not being very astute at computers and computer lingo. One syllable.....HA!
Here is a forum to ask >>ANY<< qestion. Aside from comic relief, I have an inside track to some people that can do magic with these things. (hint> they reside right here and have always answered my questions) Step up to the plate and ask away!
as a former lifeguard and current ER nurse I will tell you its the question you were afraid to ask that will get you killed. Ask away, it's anonymous.

So when were you a lifeguard?

And which question was it that you find people were afraid to ask lifeguards....?
I, myself, have always been puzzled by that how long do you wait before swimming after eating thing... ;)
Since we're asking questions here...
Are lifeguards required to run in slow-motion, like on Baywatch? It seems a little counter-productive to me.

I don't know, I always get something out of the lifeguard slo-mo cam so... it appears to have some purpose... :D
Just curious why it only seems to be popular for that profession. I mean, you never see any slow-motion circus clowns, or army sergeants, or postal workers. Well, I take that back.

Ok, I am kind of a computer beginner... and now I think I feel comfortable enough to ask my question to you experts. I hope this does not sound too stupid...
I have been posting to this group with my brother's computer, but I figured it was time to get my own.
I got a good deal from I guy I know from work. In fact, I think I got a great deal because I only paid $450 for it and I got the keyboard, the screen, a wrist rest, and some cool games as a part of the "package price." I have seen computers for more than $800 at Walmart that don't include all the stuff I got. My brother pays $150 a month for his from a Rent to Own store.
Anyway, my computer also has an interesting feature I have not seen on other computers. It has a "turbo button" on the front. The guy I bought it from told me this button would speed it up even more. I have not seen that feature on any of the computers at Walmart.
My question is this:
I want to put Windows XP and AOL on this computer, but the computer does not have a cd player. Can I get these programs on a disk? Also, I would need the big disks because this compuer does not have the little ones. It does has two big disk drives on it, though. I guess that makes it load faster.
What is my best option?

Call the Smithsonian and see how much they will give you for your "unique" computer. Then with the money you can get one like your brothers, save $150.00 per month and have a CD-ROM. Who knows, you may even get rich!
But seriously, this thread is way off topic. It's been moved.

wow.. the old turbo button.. I haven't seen that since the 286 days. That computer sounds like a relic... you won't be able to run XP on it.. it likely won't have enough memory.. and certainly wouldn't have enough cpu power.
Time for a new PC, they don't last forever.

they used the turbo feature right through the early pentiums -but it takes a 300mhz minimum to run xp(at least to be usable).
