We trapped this spider. It was on the wall of our living room. It is the third such spider that we have come across.

Does anyone know what kind of spider this is?

Thanks in advance!

Btw, the diameter of the spider is about the same as an egg shaped dime, including the legs, approximately.

JoeCool, what you have there is known as a "sex" spider. To be more formal.....just another F***'in spider!:D

It looks like a wood or wolf spider. Very aggressive and will attack you if threatened. They move very fast and can jump.

Oh, in that case it's a leaverite spider.....just leave 'er right where she is.

or squash it with a shoe and put boric acid around all the doors and windows to keep 'em out ;)

looks very similar to a brown recluse...which is very toxic...to the point of possibly hospitilizing ya if bitten

your pic is really too blurry to telll...so look at this link and see if it looks like the spider there

http://ohioline.osu.edu/hyg-fact/2000/images/2061_2.jpg

they arent as toxic as black widows....but still are pretty toxic creatures!

most ALL spiders are venomous...just some of them dont have the fangs capable of puncturing our skin

here is a read on them too....where the link to the pic came from

What you got there is a common wolf spider. Will bite when provoked but not much worse then a bee sting.

Here's a brown recluse. You want to avoid these bad boy's at all cost's. I was bit by one once and it almost never healed.

While my bite was pretty gruesome, I got treatment quickly because I knew what I was dealing with. This is typical of the results of a brown recluse bite. (Warning it's not for the faint of heart).

Quit keeping such a nasty house were all kinds of verman are knocking down your door to get in.

;)

Regular bug spray will get rid of them. At the end of the day just leave them alone. They do more good then harm. They will scavange around and eat any of the smaller things that find their way in (ants, termites, roaches, etc...). When they run out of food they will move on.

This is a pic of what I've been dealing with lately. We saw several of these spider bites in the ER during the summer and the end result was a lot of necrotic flesh and surgeries. This is the male version of the spider...can any one ID it? :D

The brown recluse is not an aggressive spider, but will protect itself. Commonly found in wood piles around here, the bites are equally as nasty as the other poisonous spiders and, in spite of what ZyklonB said, can be quite painful. I saw a female in her 40's lose her leg because of a bite from a brown recluse. And what's even more frusterating...the "literature" and "experts" claim there aren't brown recluses in my state...but strangely enough the Universities around here have ID'ed the brown recluse for us several times when we've sent them the spider corpse.

My Cisco teacher has a shed full of Black Widow's and I'm going to head down to his ranch this weekend and check them out. We were talking one day before class about the spiders I've seen around my house and he started talking about his Black Widow's and soon it turned into "come to my house and see my spider's" type of thing. I'm pretty excited. :D I've never seen a Black Widow, but they are common in my area. I hope I get to see more than his spiders. ;)

In spite of the commercials, etc. the spiders I mentioned above often need to be trapped and not sprayed and insecticided. Too many times the insecticides will kill the smaller spiders that these bad boys feed on and make them more aggressive so your best bet is to trap them. Trust me, I paid several hundred dollars for this advise when I was trying to get rid of my aggressive house spider problem.

I'm actually quite fascinated by spiders, their bites, etc. I have no fear of spiders, but my concern has always been "what would a bite to one of my girl's do"? type of thing. If anyone has any more cool spider pics...post 'em.

I said the bite of a wolf spider is not all that painful. A recluse bite hurts like a mofo and the after effects are even worse.

Also the most common way (at least in Fl) people get nailed by them is putting on their shoes. The buggers crawl in and when you go to put them on BAM! That's how I got mine.

Well, people in Florida aren't that unique cuz that's how most people get their bites. Either through their shoes or by slipping on a coat and getting nailed on the arm.

But, so sorry I got confused...I thought you had said you'd gotten bit by a brown recluse and not a wolf spider. Please, try to bare with us 6th grade educated mountain folk who have a hard time readin' and writin'. One thing we do know is our spiders, though, and the next time your ever in God's Country and yer reachin' in yer wood pile and grabbin' a log to stoke up the ole' wood furnace, wear a long sleeved flannel shirt cuz that's a common way us mountun folks git bit. And it does hurt like a mofo!!!! Us mountin folk don't own two many pares of shoes thoo, so we have a tendency to keep um on our feet even when we'ze be sleepin' cuz we afeared they might be stolun but thanks for the shoe tip. I'z be keepin' my Red Wings boots on my feet and no derned spider is gonna be crawlin inside of dem and hatchin' babies and making a home and den be bitin' my poor old feet cuz they's how I make my livin! Yeah, I can't be walkin no streets goin' barefoot!

(Uh, by the way you didn't ID my spider. I assume you know what it is, but you're holding back because you don't want to appear smarter than what we really know you are. ;))

That's because as usual, you only hear every other word I say. You hear but you don't listen grasshopper. ;)

I have been bitten by both. Wolf spider no big deal. Actually many times due to my inability to leave well enough alone. Hurts but less then a bee sting. Goes away within an hour. Brown Recluse? Felt like a hot poker had been stuck to my foot. In fact I was sure it was a brown bark scorpion at first. Luckily it was smashed but not beyond recognition when I put my shoe on. Sought immediate medical attention so avoided the rotting flesh syndrome. Was still quite the experience and even with medical attention was an impressive wound for a while.

Grasshopper? I ain't been called a grasshopper before so the jury is still out on my reaction to that. And I do listen when someone is communicating to me in an effective manner. Otherwise I'll just blow ya off. :p

Yeah, it's always best to avoid the rotting flesh syndrome...or as we say in the medical biz...necrosis. ;) And my gosh, the next time you have an impressive wound...DO take a picture of it and post it! Spider bites are cool, but impressive wounds are even better. :D

Anyway...the spider quiz is over and I'll just tell you that the picture I posted is a male Hobo spider. Poisonous and have been known to cause the rotting flesh syndrome. They are also as ugly as sin and their communicate skills leave something to be desired, too.
