As I walk through
This wicked world
Searching for light in the darkness of insanity
............
Trick question lol but:
It was written by Nick Lowe
Originally and often performed by Elvis Costello, and covered by Lenny Kravitz.
How's that? Oh and it is called "Sigh"!

Yes but WHICH Elvis Costello album was it released on?
LOL. No need to answer it was his most famous.
Good job WKS.
Your turn.
OK, how about:
"It cuts like a switchblade to my heart
Words tearing me apart.
She tears again my bleeding heart"

Did not know the Nick Lowe part, but the song as I know it is called "(What's So Funny 'Bout) Peace Love & Understanding"
Armed Forces is a good album, but I think most Elvis Costello fans would pick My Aim is True as his best... Maybe, I am wrong...

Roy Orbison via Bono and the Edge, "She's a Mystery to Me"

Around the same time frame as Mystery Girl... A little more obscure of an artist, though...
"It's important to me
That I don't see you laughing at me.
But I'm smart enough to know
That I'll have to let you go"

You are correct, as released by Elvis Costello it was titled: "(What's So Funny 'Bout) Peace Love & Understanding". It has been covered several times and in my opinion "mis-titled" a few also. I prefer Armed Forces...but then I am not a die hard EC fan. I do however like some of his music and love his lyrics.

Great! (Even got the Bono part). Man you are fast tonight lol, I have kept this page open but not paying close attention. I am normally a night owl, but must get up in a few hours. Will have to continue this tomorrow.
Geez, I mean you are REALLY fast--couldn't stand it, had to come back for one more post to answer yours. You should have said VERY obscure lol.

Well I got to Oreoles y'know - it took a month
And there was my guitar, electric junk.
Some spade said "rock'n'rollers, you're all the same.
Man that's your instrument." I felt so ashamed.

He He, been a while on this one....MOTT THE HOOPLE! "All The Way From Memphis".
"She always smiled for the people she'd meet
On trouble and strife
She had another way of looking at life".

"Driver's Seat" by Sniff n' the Tears. No idea who wrote it. I believe I have it on one of those odd 80's Cd compilations.

Yeah that one came out of the basement. I wouldn't think it would be in an '80s compilation though--if I'm not mistaken it came out in about '72 (date may be wrong but it was definitly a '70s tune)

Yep, you are right. I have it on one of the Rhino "Have a Nice Day" 70's cd's. Knew it was a one hit wonder of sorts, but did not remember if it was 70's or 80's as I had never heard the song when it was actually popular and only knew it from the complilation

I actually won a trivia night by knowing this one.
You ask yourself
When will my time come
Has it all been said and done
I know I'll leave when it's my time to go
Till then I'll carry on with what I know

you can't see the forest for the trees
you can't smell
your own sh&t on your knees
Hey you, what do you see?
something beautiful, something free?
hey you, are you trying to be mean?
if you live with apes man, it's hard to be clean
