When I sent the error to Microsoft, they sent this link to me describing what the problem could be:

http://wer.microsoft.com/responses/Response.aspx/1445/en-us/5.1.2600.2.00010100.2.0?SGD=722b0775-93cb-4229-82c5-ffca21a44cde

Anyone have any suggestions??

What exactly is your computer doing?

Well, I could be working on a project, or the system could just be idle for a while, and it will just restart on it's own. It happens several times daily.

I had this same problem not too long ago... It turned out that one of the fans on the motherboard was no good and the machine would heat up when I was stressing it:

Maybe have a look into that.

Well, I could be working on a project, or the system could just be idle for a while, and it will just restart on it's own. It happens several times daily.Heat could be the problem as mikelbeck already suggested. It's easy enough to take the cover off the case and check for dust clogging the fans and vents. Make sure all fans are spinning and free of dust, including CPU heatsink fans, chipset fans and case fans. Make sure your box isn't sitting too close to a wall, etc. Anything that could be blocking ventilation.

Another issue could be the timing problems you are having with your system. Between the zip disk being assigned as your C: drive and using the USB drive as a primary read/write device which we discussed over at SF, you could just be confusing the hell out the OS (that's not hard to do). Windows likes timely responses to requests, and it doesn't often play by it's own rules.

BigH, All these problems I've been mentioning are happening on different computers. I'll look into the ventilation thing, as the tower is sitting next to a wall.

I would say it's one of 3 things. Heat is a good one. Your power supply could be giving up or, Windows could be crashing too. Go to the control panel and double click the system icon. (or right click "My Computer" on the desktop, and choose properties) to access the system property page. Click on the Advanced tab and click the settings button for startup and recovery. Look down the page and uncheck the box that says "automatically restart" and click ok. Restart your computer. If windows is crashing, you'll get a blue screen of death instead of the computer shutting down. Write down the error message and post it here.
