At times, when I log-in into Windows, a message will pop-up asking me to put in a disk!? So, I insert a disk into my zipdrive, and the system will now operate in it's normal state.

Most likely it's a drive assignment problem. If your system installed your operating system on D: and assigned your zip drive to C: then this will occur because certain aspects of the Windows OS assumes that C: is supposed to be the default drive. You're best bet is to re-assign the zip drive to something other than C:. If you have a secondary (non bootable) hard disk, re-assign it's drive letter to C:. That will generally solve the problem.
It is, however, generally advisable to install the OS on C: to avoid any of Windows quirky little assumptions.

Yeah, my zip drive is assigned to drive (C:), and hard drive at (E:). Is there a quick fix for this?

What's on D:? If it's another hard drive I'd recommend going into Disk Manager and re-assigning the zip drive to F:, then re-assign the D: drive to C:, then re-assign the Zip drive to D: If the current D: drive is a CD or DVD, it won't solve the problem. You'll still get the "insert disk" message. You're best bet is to get another HDD assigned as C:
Unfortunately, you can't really (easily) assign the Windows installation partition to another drive, because too many registry entries point to the installed drive. If you don't have another hard drive in the system already, you need to consider picking another one up (small ones are dirt cheap) and stick it in there, or consider re-installing the OS and forcing it to the C: drive.

D: is a CD drive. I have no second hard drive on this system. I probably won't install a second drive either since I save all jobs on another CPU's second drive. I can deal with this pop-up message, just thought that there was a quick fix for it. Oh well, thanks for the info though! You've been real helpful and informative..

Well, there is a quick fix for it... just leave a zip disk in the zip drive all the time. As long as windows can access the media in the drive it's not going throw up the error. It doesn't care what's on it as long as it's there.

Big H20 is right on the reassignment of the drive. It's in the administrative tools menu. You can find it in the control panel. click on administrative tools then on computer managment, then click on disk management. There you will see your drives listed. Right click on the zip drive and choose "Change drive letter and paths" You'll get a drop down box and it will only list the letters that are available. choose any one you like. You don't have to have anything assigned to drive C. If you don't have anything assigned to drive C, you will not get the pop up anymore. Just remember if you have any software using your zip drive for a back up, you have to point it to the right drive letter once you change it. Good luck.

True on most points vantim... but there are some applications that are quirky enough to insist on the presence of the c: drive. SpySweeper is one of them. If you have a removable media on the c: volume, or if a c: drive isn't present, SpySweeper will throw up an error every time it loads a definition. That can lead to a ton of clicking to get through a scan.
That's just one example that I discovered, quite to my chagrin, when I had a system install go awry on me and do the same thing that happened to signs808

Wow. I haven't had a c drive in my computer since XP came out. Never had a problem. Thanks for the info. I definitely won't ever buy spysweeper. LOL
Adding another harddrive and assigning it C: will definitely fix the problem though. Plus give you more room to store more stuff :)
How've you been BigH20. Long time no type!

Jeez... sorry. It isn't spysweeper. It's Spybot S&D. I don't know what the hell I was thinking when I wrote that.
I've been great vantim. Busy as hell, but other than that everything is fine. Where you been lately?

Busy is good. I went through a real bad period for a while. Lost both of my parents. Then I moved and just lost time to have fun for a couple years. It sucked but, things are real good now. Hopefully, I'm back and give help out for awhile.

Well we're glad to have you back. We've missed you. Sorry about the personal issues. Forums should definately take a back seat to those.
Now that you're back though, get to work slacker :)
