Im really surprised at the price of this chip too!
Very affordable for 1st day release!...I seen TD has one of the lower end Asus boards with the chip/fan/sink for a tad over 600 bucks...so that means someone prolly has the same thing for at least 50-75 bucks cheaper!

Gosh, if it works wonders on Unreal Tournament, Microsoft could probably make a real cool optimized version of Halo...

I thought that the north bridge being built into the chip was kinda neat -I am able to get the Nforce 3 board from Asus for $239 and the MSI VIA chipset board for $161 the chips are running me $470 for the retail box version of the 3200+ and the FX-51(runs at 2.0 gig but blows away the intel 3.2gig offering)multimedia/gamer chip 1 meg of cache and optimised for multimedia is listed at $777 but is not available till 10/13 ,so the price may drop on release
these chips are on the new 1600mhz bus(so much for intels 800mhz bus)

yes, my mistake the athlon 64 3200+ runs at 2.0ghz and the fx-51 runs at 2.2ghz(I had them backward)
from AMD
Q: What speeds are available now?
A: Frequency alone is not a good measure of performance. There are other factors like bus speed and cache size as well as platform performance that affect application performance. AMD sells the AMD Athlon 64 FX processor according to series numbers. Today this processor is available in model FX-51. The processor architecture operates at 2.2GHz.
