I am using McAfee anti virus for the past three years never had a problem. Two days ago I was updating the anti virus suddenly the computer shut down. I tried to restart it immediately but it did not. After a while it restarted, for about 3 minutes and shut down again.
It keeps restarting itself after 2-4 minutes for 2-4 minutes if i don't unplug it. i tried to start it on safe mode it does it on save mode as well.
I don't know whether this is due to a virus or ;
My keyboard was broken and i borrowed another keyboard, this happens on the first time I am using this new keyboard which i am not sure if that has done it.
any ideas?

If you let it sit for a while and then power it up, does it stay on for longer before shutting down? Then if you try it again immediately it shuts down faster?

If that's the case I would look at the fans, or check the BIOS to see if it shows the temperature of the CPU. Sounds to me like something is overheating and the machine is shutting itself down to protect itself. I don't think the anti-virus or keyboard is related.

Mike is right, many times a fan clogged with dust can shut a box down, they over heat and like a circuit breaker shut down when overloaded.

Once I cleaned my clogged up fan the computer never shut down again!

That is always the first thing to check and the easiest and cheapest, you can do that yourself by taking the case off and looking to see it it is clogged with dust!

Also make sure the CPU heatsink is fitted properly and not loose. Sometimes they come loose, and could cause similar problems

It's either heat from dustbunnies or your Power Supply is failing. Mikelbeck is correct though. Blow all the dust out and make sure all your fans are spinning and see if that cures the problem.
