I about I month ago, I upgraded the firmware on my linksys WRT54G v3.1. It wasn't til after I noticed, I installed the firmware for v1.1

Since then I decided to upgrade to the v3.1 firmware, but while it was updating, I pluged in my notebook, I forgot that it would turn off the LAN!!!!! From then on out all I got was 404's when I tried to go to the settings. But wired transfers where still working, which I thougt was really weird.

I thought I had bricked, so I spent $40 on a buffalo router, which works fine, but the range is a little lower.

Today I decided to try go to the settings and it worked, so I pluged into the modem again, but was still not working, so i install some 3rd party firmware called "freeman basic". It's got some nice features, but it still doesn't work.

Is it possible the WAN port is out?

First, what is the *hardware* revision of the router. V5 hardware doesn't play very nice due to limited memory. That could be playing into your problem.

I'm not familiar with "freeman basic" firmware, so I'm not able to give you much diagnostic information there. Is it possible the wan port is out? Absolutely. Is that the case? Impossible to tell without checking all of the possible configuration settings in the firmware and confirming that the firmware is compatable with the hardware revision.

I could help you with the stock linksys firmware, or with dd-wrt, but not knowing the firmware you are using I'm afraid I can't be of much use.

I have hardware version v3.1.

Also, I can go put the stock firmware in today since it will help you figure it out...

Just wanted to add, it was set for DHCP, like it should.

I just upgraded to the newst version of the stock firmware.

Is there anywhere I can get the stock firmware that came with my router, rite before linksys stoped making their own firmware?

Yeah... dd-wrt is da bomb. So did you figure out your problem yet or are you still experiencing difficulties? Brainslayer has a pretty comprehensive dd-wrt support forum that ought to cover about all aspects of the firmware... and if you have any questions that you can't find answers to you ought to give a shout over there. Feel free to ask here if you want though.
