I have a 80 gallon hex tank I was using for saltwater fish. It just developed a small leak, so I was thinking of making it into a snake pen (LOL)!!!
My question is, I have 1 ball python now, she is about a 1 1/2 long. What other snakes can I put with her in this 80 gallon tank??? I was thinking about having 4 or 5 snakes in this tank, just want to make sure they will all get along!!!!
Thanks!!!!

you could put other balls in with it -or you could get a emerald tree boa -beutiful snake but I would not put my hand in there with it(they have huge fangs they use to catch birds-and a nasty attitude to go with them)the bummer is most snakes you would put in there will hide -and it is not real good to put more then one per setup unless they are mates(compitition for food and harder to keep clean)

You would be better off keeping species together....actually its sometimes best to keep them in solitaire
Unless you are gonna breed that is exactly what i would do....even with a ball the 80 will be just large enough when it reaches adult size
Also note that most constrictors arent cannibalistic....but in captivity they could be territorial....so if you are gonna keep more than one...keep them seperate or at least in male/female pairs

cool pic -just before i sold him, lucifer was eating 3 full grown white rabbits a week.he was 18' long and ~20" around in the center.I would bet he could have ate a small pig(or medium sized dog).

I feed Pandora 1 adult rabbit (like in the pic) once every 3 weeks.
She is just shy of 9 feet...and her girth (circum) is prolly around 10-12 inches....I would guess she weighs somewhere in the 35 pound range...no more than 40
Shes a sweetheart...unless you are a Rat, Rabbit, or Chicken
LMAO!!!

I sold him as a breeder -his mother was a albino burmese so he had very nice coloring.I sold him for $1500 at the time but he was worth more.I had him from a little over 12"and never fed him live food (other then baby chickens when he was very small)-so he was very mellow.

Pandora wont eat dead food....my baby snake(Allister) i havent tried pre-killed with yet.....but I kinda like watching the natural act of a snake feeding on live prey....call me demented but whenever I feed...its like a Playboy Centerfold Shoot going on....Flashbulbs clicking away until its all the way down the gullet!
and she is very mellow too.....well unless shes hungry!

I agree and love to wach them eat too -but when you are dealing with 18-28' of snake it is better if they don't ever strike ;)

what kind of python gets 28'.....was he a Retic????
far as i know only a retic would get that long in the python species
actually the record for worlds LONGEST snake is the Reticulated Python(32')....whereas the worlds Largest(Heaviest) is the Green Anaconda
Dave....do you know of any herp dealers/breeders in your area that are into the "jugle" carpets?....all i can find around here are coastal carpets...
I would have a Coastal...but I think they look more like a rattlesnake(brwn/blk)...whereas I prefer the black/yellow markings of the jungle carpets
let me know!

he was a burmese (I have seen one at 26' but books claim they can get 28')and he was 18' when I got rid of him and he was just starting to bulk(he was only about 125lbs
) -though don't kid yourself 18' is a whole lota snake to try to controll -I can check with my new snake guy and the breeded I used to deal with.

oh i know!!....Pandora is pretty much a handful for one person to handle without help at her size now
i knew burmese are heavy bodied snakes..i just didnt realize they got near 30' in length......
but i kinda knew it wasnt a Retic because I dont know of anyone capable of keeping a Retic at full adult size just as a pet....lol...unless they have a deathwish!.....so far the meanest constrictor I've ever handled have been Retics!
Would be great to hear what you find out though about helping me get a jungle carpet....IMO they are one of the most beautiful patterns found on a constrictor...not mentioning albinos that is!...the vivid yellow on black is quite menacing and cool!

reticulated....why are they so bad? (don't know much about pythons)

go pick one up and you will see!
they are just very mean spirited....most "tree dwellers" are that way...and with the extra long teeth that tree snakes have...the bites are even that much more painful
not sure if you watch "The Crocodile Hunter"....but there is actual footage of him being repeatedly bitten by about a 6' Retic....they have a greenish yellow tint to their heads....and really evil looking eyes because of it...LOL.....that episode if you watch him..is the one where he crawls under that hutlike thing thats built up off the ground on posts.....and after it bites him about 4-6 times...he says..."Lets go let this girl go over here away from the farmhouse...for if the farmer comes back and finds her...it will be CHOP CHOP"...lol
anyway....i like the coloring of Retics.....just dont care to be bitten and they will just bite for no reason other than spite.....some of the other pythons like balls..coastals...and burmese....are alot more docile....and there is no comparison of the personality among any constrictor type snake of that of the red tail boa species.....they are by far the best pets...and stay within a manageble size...are really "catlike" in their natural curiosity about the environment ouside of their cage!

retics are nasty by nature -and the second longest snake in the world-but for bulk size the burmese is the second largest-and a world different in personality.if you have ever seen a snake show with a giant snake you can touch -chances are it is a burmese.if you keep them well fed they are very very dosile-but if they get hungry ,at up to 650lbs they can break bones with a strike -this is why mine ate only freshly dead food(it had to still be kicking).when they never strike to get their food, there is less chance of a accident.
if you want more of a holding snake ,the boa is a good choice.if you are new to snakes ,you may be able to find a red rat for less money and they are nice holding snakes too.then there is a ball python-cheap,easy going and sturdy.the only problem is most are captured animals and require a lot of attension(the conditions they are subjected to are horrific) when you get them (parasites and illness).if you can find a captive bred ball they are great pets.down here we get a lot of red rats and yellow rats(though the yellow rat tends to be very spirited).king snakes also are good pets -but are not legal to keep in a lot of states-because of their diet of mostly poisonous snakes they are very desirable in the wild.
are there any good snakes for small kids? this sounds like an interesting avocation
