I have lorma linux(server) installed. But when I rebooted, I can't get to it! it startes window automatictly. So I went to boot config, but I don't know how to make it a primary. It's a slave now, how do I make it a primary so I get a choice of which OS to run?

I've even tried booting with the "windows" drive unpluged. But it doesn't regnize the linux drive.

you need to have a boot manager. All distros of linux I have ever seen came with at least LILO.

Did you not install one...or did you not know you had to?

Yes, I tried to install the LILO on "simple". But I think I need to go in and do it manuly. I think what happened was I forgot to set the new partition as a BOOT partition. I'll go back and try it later. Mean while, I just finished downloading redhat. Can that be a server OS too? Can I have three OS's?

ok, I installed redhat fedora. And LILO is working, but when it boots linux it freezes at:
/sbin/init: relocation error: /lib/i686/libc.so.6: symbol ___tis_get_addr, version GLIBC_2.3 not defined in File ld-linux.so.2 with link time reference
kernel panic:attemtping to kill init!"

What does this mean? It looks like I downloaded the wrong type of fedora, but the intallation worked, so shouldn't this?

If a waisted a second DVD my mom is going to kill me. Those things aren't cheap lol.

hmmmmmmmm....off the top of my head...seems like you are missing a file/s for initializing.

I have not tried fedora....last edition of redhat that I have had running was 7.somethin....dont remember right off actually

i think you may have wasted another DVD...LOL :D

crap, I'm all out...

Well I don't think I want to turn this pc into a server, I'll just get another mobo and CPU and start from there.

I think I'm going to try lorma again.

I want to get a server up before monday. I'm installing a digital camera on my RC plain and I wanted to upload it so I can stream it to my friends. I already got my mom to get a 512MB SD card for the camera so I can take 25min. of video. I want a permant server too. So I need to go to the dump in the next week lol.

Well I think I might have a perminent server on the way. My grandma has a Dell with a 2Ghz P4 and it was infected with a virrus a year ago. She was able to mauely remove it at the cost of some inportant windows files. Soon after she started having more problems. So she says, she tried everything to fix it. But the problem contined. I offered to help, but she insist she tried everything. I know for a fact she didn't reinstall windows. So long-story-short, She is going to buy a new PC. So I'm getting a P4, MoBo(might have 4x AGP) and atleast 256Mbs of RAM.

I might even swich my MoBo with that one, if it has AGP and supports my 2.8GHz celeron D.

One more question, is the linux anti-virus good enough for server protection?

That Dell should do fine. As cheap as RAM is today....I would upgrade to at least 1gig though...just so you have plenty of running power.

video/audio and all that crap dont matter on a server though. I wouldnt worry about high end video.....and I'd just leave the soundcard out altogether..unless its integrated into the motherboard.

I'll just have to settle with 512MBs. I'm broke, and I'm also going to have to get another wireless network adatper. There only $5 at newegg.

I've found a live linux server, so I'm going to see how it looks on my PC, since I don't have a server...
