Large corporations tend to be above the law, and use their financial clout to gain ever-increasing government benefits at the expense of the poor and unemployed.

The Republic of Dave420 is a large, safe nation, renowned for its complete lack of prisons. Its compassionate, intelligent population of 36 million enjoy extensive civil rights and enjoy a level social equality free of the usual accompanying government corruption.
It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent, liberal, socially-minded government stops and the rest of society begins, but it concentrates mainly on Social Welfare, although Education and the Environment are on the agenda. The average income tax rate is 78%, and even higher for the wealthy. The private sector is almost wholly made up of enterprising fourteen-year-old boys selling lemonade on the sidewalk, although the government is looking at stamping this out.
Meat-eating is frowned upon, military funding has been stripped back, scientists recently cloned the long-extinct feather-bellied aardvark, and scientists regularly clone human beings for research purposes. Crime is well under control. Dave420's national animal is the aardvark, which frolics freely in the nation's many lush forests, and its currency is the spliff.
