I just got a Pioneer 110D dual-layer 16x DVD burner with Nero software. I have burned a few audio cd's and a data disk, but have not been able to get the DVD's to burn. I get a message saying that I am using the wrong kind of disk. I have tried Sony DVD+R 1x-16x and Sony DVD-R 1x-4x and got the error message with both. I used some Imation CD-R to burn audio and they worked fine.
Do I have the wrong media to burn DVDs? If not then what could be the problem?
Thanks everyone, you guys rule!

Not enough info. What are you trying to burn? Data, movie etc. A good place to learn about burning DVD's is at afterdawn.com.

Some media is better than others. I can't vouch for the Sony media, but I can guarantee you it isn't made by Sony, just brand labeled. My DVD RW is only a 4X, but I went through several brands of media before I found one that consistently worked. Memorex media was the worst. Out of 50 blanks I made 32 coasters and 18 valid burns. What I finally settled on with my burner was Imation DVD-R (- because my $2000 Onkyo DVD player won't read + media... ??? ...) I've never made a coaster with the Imation media.
You might want to try some other burning programs just to be safe. Nero is great for CDs, but from what I've found the DVD portions of the suite seem to be an afterthought to the solid CD performance. Give 1 Click DVD Copy and Copy2DVD a shot just to see if they make a difference with your media. Both of these can be found in trialware versions by doing a google search.
Good luck

Download a DVD decrypter and DVD shrink program from limewire or use a trial from downloads.com. it will walk you through it.

Download a DVD decrypter and DVD shrink program from limewire or use a trial from downloads.com. it will walk you through it.
Shrink and Decrypter are both great programs. The only problem is that neither have had an upgrade for quite some time and they won't be upgraded again. Shrink is very easy to use and very reliable but you will have to run another program with it to bust through the newer encryptions. AnyDVD works great for these purposes. It runs quietly in the background. Shrink and Decrypter are free and can be downloaded at afterdawn.com. You can also download a free trial of AnyDVD at AD. WHen you visit AD check out the "guides" section and you will soon be burning like a pro.
Good Luck,
HW.
