My mother has a computer built by a friend in 1999 running '98. It works great for the things a 72 year old person needs. The motherboard does not have any usb ports on it. She bought a 4 in 1 scanner, printer etc. and brought it home only to discover it is usb. I bought a pci card with 2 usb ports to drop into the motherboard. But when the card is in, the modem will not work. As soon as I remove the card, the modem works. When I look at the resources, it says the modem and the card are not using the same IRQ and that there are no conflicts. I am not computer savy enough to figure this out. Is there a simpler way of fixing this? Is there such thing as a usb to serial cord. I know you can get a cord that goes from a serial printer to a usb computer port but is there a cord that does just the opposite? Can I get a cord or adapter that will go from a usb printer to a serial computer port? My mother is on a limited budget and really does not want to buy a new computer if I can fix this. Help.

We try thr cards in different slots when that happens and try to get it to enumerate correctly. Ya need to have all the dirvers handy when you do it usually.
