Windows XP Pro log-on

Not sure what happened but when I enter the password on the log on screen, I get a p/w not valid message.Is there a way bypass the log on?

The log on screen was showing (windows user) as the log on name.I changed the log on name to (administrator) and used my password and it let me log on.
