Hey,
A few days ago I got an error saying kernal_data_inpage_error.
Then windows restarted and said I have to activate it in order for it to work, which was a bit random. So I did and all was well. Now everytime I turn on the computer I get the same message saying I have to activate windows and punch in the product ID or something. Why is this?
Thanks ;)
The activation is a two step process I believe. You may have to call them and get the product ID.

I have done that and everytime I turn on the computer it always asks for the product ID when I have done all that the previous time I have logged on.

That should be an internal error. Try using system restore

Hey. Thanks for the replies greatly appreciated.
Am using XP and assume Im in as Admin as there is only my account name and the other one is 'guest'. My sound card randomly stopped working for some reason a few weeks back. Could this be linked?
Re system restore - is it easy to do? Will I have to set up broadband again etc and will I loose my firewall which was updated recently?

Your error that you posted is somewhat eroneous in the realm of MS codes however Yes hardware or software can cause this ,while Tubago's sugestion is valid in reference to a System Restore I would reccomend that you first check the sound card in System under (Control Panel) then select Hardware then Device Manager then scroll to your Sound Card or Audio Devices then right click on device then select properties then click troubleshoot. To get to Control panel go to Start then Run then type Control Panel and click enter

Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)
That's what it says about the C-Media AC97 Audio Device.

Here is what the code 39 Means from MS
Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39) Reasons for this error include a driver that is not present; a binary file that is corrupt; a file I/O problem, or a driver that references an entry point in another binary file that could not be loaded.
Uninstall the driver, and then click Scan for hardware changes to reinstall or upgrade the driver (DRIVERS) If you do not have the drivers for it then I located them here from your description of sound card Find Your Driver Here (http://www.soundcard-drivers.com/drivers/136/136560.htm) Unfortunately the link has a Pop-Up so just X on it and proceed to download the Drivers then reinstall them and hopefully your good to go
