Help On Windows Xp And Boot Sequence

i have a kinda of old computer maybe 5 years old its not name brand lets just say bu legd but i want to install windows xp home edition on it i put a new harddrive in it 40 gb and when i try to boot from cd on the main screen when i turn it on it say that the boot record could not be found..?? what does dat mean and how do i set my computer to boot straight from the cd

Dat means dat the Bios is not getting past the Master Boot Record . To fix dat ya need to get into the bios and not knowing what kind of bu legd confuser you got limits our ability to hep you however when first starting your computer look for a post that may say to enter Set-Up click on delete or something like that and do so then you can get into the Bios and set it to boot to CD ,come on back wit mo questions if you need to and please post the on screen Message you get in detail if you can.
