So. What do you mean is there will be 2 versions of windows, like win xp. One 32bits and a 64bits?

Nope what I mean is that Longhorn according to Billy Boy will work with both 32 and 64 . There may be four or Five versions of the OS by Release Time. This is from Information Week a publication I receive and you can check it out here http://www.informationweek.com/showArticle.jhtml?articleID=161502192

Imnobs is right on the money. WinXP64 is a true 64 bit version of windows that supports 32 bit apps. But...You must be running a 64 bit processor to install it.

Congress is trying to outlaw porn too. But guess what? There is alot more to the world then the US.

Now tell me, how the hell is a law like this spyware law gonna be useful or enforced?

I know the obvious, it helps at home, but hey, it won't put a dent in it.

Just another way congress can make a buck off of something. They know they can't stop it but, they also know its and easy couple thousand bucks in their pockets

XP64 Yes Not the LONGHORN,it will run on 32bit. or 64 but will run better with the a dual processor

According to a white paper Microsoft issued at WinHEC, PCs have to have "a modern CPU", 512MB of memory, and a "graphics component with a Longhorn display driver model (LDDM)".

It looks as though Microsoft wants the PC vendors to brand their machines, starting from the end of this year, with a Longhorn Ready PC logo, and the Vole is eager that people don't postpone buying a machine until the release of Longhorn. Microsoft states that "computer purchases in the near term will retain their value after the availability of Longhorn protecting investments".

And that will mean "consumers will have a smoother migration path to the Longhorn platform".

Microsoft claims in the document that "Longhorn will run fine" on 256MB systems but believes that "512MB or more of RAM provides really good multitasking performance".

And what is a "modern CPU"? The Vole says that the "majority of current CPUs will be fine and the new multicore CPUs promise better multitasking performance". So the guidance is somewhat scanty. Perhaps Microsoft should be being a little more specific. Now.

Duh... What was I thinkin'. Geez I can read...LOL. Got my Os's all mixed up. Good catch Imnobs. It would help if you guys were talking about XP64. Another feature MS is putting in longhorn is the ability to detect the type of hardware your running. People running...say a celeron and built in video will have a different looking longhorn than people running say a Falcon Northwest game machine.

There will be 3 different levels of install:

1. A lackluster install that won't have any eye candy at all turned on for people with low end hardware

2. A medium install that will have some things turned on but won't be too taxing

3. A high end guaranteed to bring today's computers to their knees install for people with gobs of dough that stay on the cutting edge of hardware.

Now this won't be 3 different versions of Longhorn but the setup routine will try to use what works best for the end user. Of course you can change it as you want any time. LAST THING I WANT TO DO IS CONFUSE TUBAGO! SORRY TUBAGO
