I was having problems with my laptop so I deceided to restore the thing back to factory settings. Well as was going well about 3 min. in to it and the it shuts its self off, so I restart it and it just keeps shutting off in a min. or two. I left it sit awhile and restarted it all seemed to be fine until I get to the first step of the restoring and it comes up with a "error # 1826" "free space not found". I am at a loss does anyone have a idea what is going on? Then it goes to a promt screen. I'm lost  Thanks Twostroke.

Depends on Why, how or what you were using to restore the thing back to factory settings. and What operating System do you have ??? Give us a little more info on your system and we can get to the bottom of things....

Are you trying to do the factory restore by booting the lappy from the restore CD? If you are starting the system normally, and then running the restore CD, you will have numerous files on your hard drive that will be locked and can't be overwritten. If your hard drive is almost full, you will pack it to the max with a restore by trying to restore it with the old installation running. Like lmnobs said, give us some more info on why you're trying to restore, and how you're trying to do it. I'm sure we can set you straight.

Please go to My Computer and Right Click on the Drive you are wanting to Restore (prob will be C) then a menu will appear in which you will choose Properties at the bottom click on that you will get a pie chart and tell us much used space you have in (Blue) and how much Free Space you have in Magenta or pinkish .

What brand of laptop do you have. And please give us the model # too. It's possible your restore disks do not format your hard drive and you have lots of orphan files and duplicate garbage laying around.
You may want to do a little investigating to see what's on your harddrive. Then I would probably email the laptops vendors asking about the restore discs.

I got it to go by formating, the reason it kept shutting off is heat, I had a fan pointed at it and was able to get everything reloaded it works great. Thanks all for the help!!

Get you a good firewall , Spyware prog, and Virus protection tool , or you may be back in the same boat.

A strong password would keep them from doing ANYTHING to your lappy :)
They probably wouldn't like you very much though.
