Can a Senior Member please speak on the Issue of Printers..

Last year I purchased a Dell Cpu Desktop, came with a free Printer.. Ink is Very expensive, and MUST be ordered through Dell Only.. which can be costly..

What happens when You are doing alot of Printing, What is the Best way to stretch the Dollar, Without Losing Quality... And Being Safe While Buying used over the Internet..?

Thank You,

MtnClimber

I'd sugest you to get a laser printer. The tonners can be a little expensive maybe about 80$ each, but with one you can print up to 6000 pages.

I don't understand too much about this.
This is only my suggestion. Wait and see what other guys say

When Purchasing a Laser Printer is Brand a Factor?

How About what they call Dpi resoulution?

Memory and the Processor are these Major Factors in determining a Laser Printer?

I notice Samsung puts laser printers out .. as well as the other major brand companies..

Maybe. Yhey can have differen warranties and the price can also be different. Also take in account that color laser printers can be a little expensive.
When purchasing one don't look only on the price of the printer, look also on the price of the tonners you will need and how many pages can one tonner print.

But as i said wait. There are many other guys here that can help you better than me

MtnClimber, why are you always insisting that help can only come from Senior Members? There are plenty of people in here who are NOT senior members who have a lot of experience. I could give you a boatload of advice on printers, but I'm not a senior member so I'll just keep it to myself.

Just kidding :)

The first thing you need to know about a "free" Dell printer is that Dell gives you the printer for "free" to hook you into buying supplies from them. The printer is not manufactured by Dell, it is only brand labeled by the manufacturer for Dell, and supplies are easily available from other sources. Just google the model number of the printer to cross reference it to the manufacturer. You'll probably find it to be an Epson printer, and from there you can google the particular cartridges for the printer model to find a cheaper source for supplies.

Ink jet printers are a bane in the existence of all computer users, because they are designed to hook you into having to spend boo-coo bucks on ink. That's why they are practically free in stores and often given away for free with systems. They know they will make a ton more money by forcing you to buy supplies over the years than the hardware costs them when they give it to you. The printer may be cheap or free, but the total cost of ownership will be high.

A color laser printer, while moderately expensive will be your best investment, as you will not have to be buying ink cartridges every week. A toner drum for a color laser printer will cost you about 10 times the cost of an ink cartridge, but will last you about 1000 times longer than the ink cartridges will. If you do a lot of printing, you will recoup the cost of a laser printer quickly.

A good middle ground is a solid ink printer, like the Xerox Phasor. They use ink "sticks", have print quality comparable to lasers, and the ink lasts for a long time. The only bad thing about them is that you need to leave them running all the time, because when you turn them off and then back on they have to go through a cleaning cycle which wastes a considerable amount of ink. They are also considerably slower than a laser printer, making large print jobs cumbersome.

I've got all three types of printers. Ink Jet, Laser, and Solid Ink, and I prefer the Solid Ink printer for daily use... primarily because it is more brilliant, especially when doing photo printing, than the others are, and because the overall cost vs. performance seems to be the best. I use the laser for dumping out high volumes of documents because it is fast, but the print quality is not as good (to my eye) as the solid ink printer is. I rarely ever use the inkjet printer. The only reason I have one is because it is integral to my multifunction machine. The inkjet only gets used when I receive a fax.

Hope this helps.

If you can get by without color, a laser could probably be bought for the change laying on your dresser. B/W laser printers are CHEAP.
