Make sure your anti-virus program is up to date with the latest definition. If you have an older virus scanner or you're running mcafee or norton and you ran out of free updates visit http://free.grisoft.com and download AVG antivirus. Do a full scan. Then head over to http://security.kolla.de/ and get a fresh copy of spybot search and destroy. This will scan your hard drive for any spyware apps that may be invading your computer.
If you're running service pack 2 on your version of XP make sure your firewall is turned on. If you're not running service pack 2 head over to windows update and download all the critical updates. Including service pack 2 and install them. If at this point you're still getting this message it's probably caused from your other machine. Especially if you share files over the network.

do you have two or more user accounts on the machine in question? If you do and have not logged out of the 2nd user when shutting down from the 1st users login you will get that message.
Also if you have accessed said machine from 2nd machine via the network....and still are connected to the shared folder/s....and shut down said machine....you will also get that message.
Also check your services and make sure you do NOT have the ftp service running. If you are running an annonomous FTP server....hackers can and will use your system and bandwith to host files on!
If none of those scenerios are the case.....take vantim's advice above.
