I was having a gay old time, downloading some anime, chatting with some friends, when suddenly the internet decided to be troublesome. "BOO!" said I, and decided I would just restart, since MSN messenger decided that it didn't want to start back up after the internet had stopped dancing around.

I discovered after restarting my computer, that after showing the regular screen which indicates that my computer is of the Intel brand...that it changed into a black screen...and stayed there.

And with my limited knowlege of computers, I simply turned the computer back off, walked in my room to start reading, and pretended the whole thing never happened, considering that maybe when i returned later, all would be well again. Well, sadly, that is not so.

And now I sit here...my paranoia swelling up inside me, as I think about all of the lovely things on that computer...my anime, my music, my personal statement to apply for college. >.> Somebody please help me before I stab myself out of desperation and self pity. /damsel in distress.

I know absolutely nothing about computers...My computer was custom made by my dad's friend and all I know is that it uses Intel Desktop Board D865GLC for the intel pentium 4 processor, was running Windows XP, and has about 4 hard drives. It also had norton's antivirus and spybot - search and destroy, which i used pretty regularly...

When the computer first starts booting up, it seems completely normal though. There are no weird noises or beeps. But after it gets to the Blue Intel Screen, it just goes black, and so far I have't been able to access the BIOS.

...Nevermind. @_@ I guess the problem is fixed...despite the fact that i had probably tried turning the darn computer on atleast 30 times within the last 24 hours...this last time it actually booted up normally.

restart it 3 or 4 times to check if everything is ok. Don't restart it. Shut it down and then turn i on again.

You should have someone check your computer out. It could have overheated but, what you experienced may be a sign of trouble. It would be wise if you can get somebody to back up your precious data. Hard drives are mechanical and not only do fail but eventually will fail. If you do not have some type of backup storage media (such as a cd/dvd burner) get one now and back it up. The next time you start your computer may be the last time.

I don't think it would be wise to do this!
