hey can anyone help me? i have taken delivery of a second hand laptop with windows 2000 installed, there is no sound on the computer which means i am not able to listen to mp3's. there is no sound icon on the front screen and when i go into the control pane, there is nothing highlighted for me so i dont have the option of changing the volume off mute!! please help, thanx, claire

You need to install the drivers of the soundcard. They are in the CD that came with the pc. Other way is to go to manufacturer sit and download the drivers according to your pc model.

Look on the back and see if there is a place to plug speakers or a headphone in. If so, go to the control panel and look at the hardware installed in the system. If you do have a place to plug speakers in, but you don't see it listed in the hardware, you should be able to use win2k's add new hardware function to have it auto detect the sound card, then if the driver is not already present in the win2k database, you'll need to get the driver from the manufacturer.
