i read on the net that the speed of the 3000+ is 1.8ghz but this lap top in sys info is 793mhz way below the clock speed, is this a fault, if so how can i fix it it's running like a real slow snail i'v tried bios but does not seem to be anything else to change..

What you're seeing is the speedstep technology at work. When the laptop is under battery power or specific conditions the processor will throttle down to save power or cool off. Alot of times XP will not correct itself and will display the incorrect speed of the processor.

Download sisoft sandra http://download.guru3d.com/sandra/ and run the tests. This will give you the actual speed of the proc. Then you'll know if you have a problem or if windows is just misreporting it.

vantim 2 the rescure again,, cheers again mate. i found an answer in power options just clicked always on and saved profile, only problem being of course is that the laptop's battery will not last as long but it seemed the only way to correct the processor speed
