help please
i am trying to install xp home on a exselsior 40 g hdd i format the disk it installs the set up files reboots and starts all over again and again and again it gets no further than rebooting after setup files then it just starts again!
any advice would be appreciated
i have quick formatted and formatted and used fdisk to format
ihave been at it for 5 hours help please.

Here is a Step by Step for pro but is the same for Home from Windows Install .com read it through Completely then try it ,should have you up an going in a flash.

thanks for the response thats exactly what i have been doing but when the system reboots after the setup files have been loaded it doesnt take up where it left off but starts from the beginning again(as if i have pressed any key to boot from disk)
i have the boot sequence set to hdd but it tells me to insert boot disk and will not boot from hdd

Ok lets try it this way , Are you putting a Full Version Copyrighted CD of Win XP in the CD Rom Drive in your Computer and then Turning it on??

yes i am just as in your link but after windows has installed the set up files and automatically reboots after 15 seconds i get no further it just keeps rebooting to the beginng of setup

So you are getting past the partiion part for NTFS or Fat32 am I correct? Which do you choose? and Make sure there is no Floppy installed in the drive when it reboots.

i chose NTFS and i have no floppy drive installed i have formatted and quick formatted
to no avail

If this is a new Hard Drive then it may be bad and if it is a used one it prob has a bad sector to which your installing Windows , If you are Booting to the CD on Start-up then thats all I can come up with .

problem solved
i put the hdd and the dvdrom on seperate ide cable and it booted up perfectly
